In the aftermath of the Second World War when western powers were withdrawing from their colonies in Asia, Africa and elsewhere, a new world order was created with newly independent countries dotting the world map. It was a world in transition, a new beginning that was to erase dark memories of war. It was under these circumstances that a new tour company was born in 1946. A pioneer in the tourism and travel field, Ceylon Tours Limited founded by my father late Mr. P. A. Ediriweera as a public limited liability company, put Sri Lanka, then Ceylon, in the global map even before the country emerged as an independent nation in February 1948.

With only a handful of hotels and poor infrastructure facilities in the country, the new company faced a daunting task in wooing foreign tourists to visit Sri Lanka. Banking largely on the laurels of Sri Lanka which was known among early excursionists and Silk Road traders as Serendib, Teardrop of India, Resplendent Isle, Island of Dharma, Pearl of the Orient and Paradise on Earth, Ceylon Tours Limited made gradual but steady progress. It was the first company in Sri Lanka to run a tourist coach.

As Sri Lanka's reputation grew as a tourist destination, largely due to its richness in beauty and serenity, the interest and keenness shown by foreign tourists to visit Sri Lanka also grew. To meet the growing demand, Ceylon Tours Limited was equal to the task. That the company has been in operation for the past 55 years itself is recognition for its professionalism and expertise.

Our primary business is handling inbound tours into Sri Lanka by Charter or Regular Scheduled flights. The Company works with several Tour Operators, with the main markets being France, Germany, Scandinavia, Belgium, Austria, Australia, United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, India, Spain, U.A.E. , U.S.A., Ukraine, Russian Federation and Lebanon. We also handle clients from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Nepal to name a few.

As the pioneers in the development of tourism in the Republic of Maldives, we stand today as a leading seller of holiday packages to many of the tourist resorts in the Maldives. Ceylon Tours is also the official representative in Sri Lanka for DINERS INTERNATIONAL.

We are the appointed agents of the National Carrier Sri Lankan Airlines and all other International Airlines operating through Colombo.

In order to provide our clientele with unparalleled service we own and operate a modern fleet of air-conditioned vehicles driven by well-experienced chauffeur / guides.

Our normal package tours include accommodation, meals, transportation, entrance fees, and porter fees and guide fees. However additional services such as special welcome reception, cultural shows, train journeys, use of helicopters, jeeps etc. could be included in any given tour.
